Racing myself

My marathon training plan called for a half marathon race this weekend. Since there wasn’t any in the area that I knew of, I decided to race myself. Going all out with no competition is tough. The mind games are weird. You have to keep talking to yourself and have no one to pace off of. In the end, I was pretty impressed with my time which gave me some confidence for my marathon in a couple months.

My daughter figured that since I came in first place I should get a medal. So she found one of my old medals for a half and re-issued it to me for this race. Not the cheering crowds from an organized race but at least there was some acknowledgement.

Now I am hobbling around as if it was a real race. Time to recover. Where’s the couch?
