First hard run

First hard run of the new training plan and so far so good. My hamstring held together and I didn’t fall on the ice. This plan looks pretty intense but I am giving it a shot.

There was only one other set of tracks out there braving the new snow, wind and cold even though it was 9 on a Saturday (and it was the third day of resolutions).

Happy trails everyone.

  1. Hey Kevin! I’m really looking forward in following you through your running adventures. This is the first time that I’m going to be running during the winter. I’m just wondering if you had any advice about running in the winter, specifically, on snow/ice. Do you use grips under your shoes at all, or do you just go out for a run with just your running shoes?

    1. I mostly use my trail shoes if there is snow on the sidewalk. I do have a pair of shoes that I have put screw’s into for traction that I will use if there is black ice or just occasional ice. But if it is hilly and a lot of ice, I use my yaktraks. They work great but I can’t run for a full hour on them or my feet start hurting.
Try out a few different things to see what works for you. Winter running isn’t all that bad especially if you prepare for it
